Our Tasting Note
Med+ ruby core, lighter ruby edges. The nose is pronounced, red fruited with fresh and crunchy cherry and raspberry, dried herbs, powdery crushed stones, subtle florals and peppercorn spice.  Medium to medium+ bodied, med/med+ texturally fine grain tannin, pronounced flavor intensity with a long, fresh and lifted finish.

From some of the highest altitude vineyard in ALL of Europe just over the border from France in Italy, this red wine is perfect for the summer weather with its cool and bright red-fruited personality.  You can even see Mont Blanc from the vineyards.

Made mostly from an indigenous grape called 'Petit Rouge' (90%), there is Pinot Noir and Gamay blended into this wine as well as another red grape called Gamaret (10% for the last 3). Petit Rouge is spicy, ethereal, and intoxicatingly aromatic. The label is the perfect accompaniment to the hot, scolding days of summer with it's blue and red hot devil!

Tiny production of about 200-250 cases of this is made depending on the vintage from a small 1-hectare site of granite terraces worked organically and completely manual.  Spontaneous fermentation, aging in tank without temperature control.

Home of the second-highest wine growing zone in the valley, the the Enfer d’Arvier is a splendorous amphitheater of steeply terraced vines overlooking the Dora Baltea/Doire Baltée river below. Covering a scant 5 ha, the majority of the Enfer d’Arvier’s output is via the local co-op, and with his single hectare in production, Danilo Thomain stands as the zone’s only independent bottler of wine. Amazingly, he is currently clearing and de-foresting another hectare’s worth of hillside above his current holdings in order to expand production, thereby reclaiming some of the long-unused but prime terrain whose viticultural records date back to the 13th century.

These are the kinds of wines that we love to find!  Small family domains that produce exceptionally unique, delicious, and well price wines! As you have come to expect from us, wines that lead with terroir expression of the vineyards and the people that make then are paramount to authentic wine! Hike the Alps with us through the wine road less travelled today with this wine. If you dare to wait, you might just miss it until next year.

REMEMBER: we have not seen this in NC since the gorgeous 2017 vintage
