The 2023 Timorasso Derthona is gorgeous. Creamy, ample and beautifully layered in the glass, it offers up hints of apricot, chamomile and white flowers, with light tropical accents that develop in the glass. Gentle, non-oxidative extraction with stems lends texture, while blocked malolactic fermentation and aging in 5HL Clayver cement barrels keeps the flavors bright. This is beautifully done.

The Cascina Penna-Currado 2023 Colli Tortonesi Timorasso Derthona (with the initials "E.P." on the front label) represents a well-contemplated continuation of a project started when Elena Penna and Luca Currado were at the helm of the Vietti winery. In fact, they are two of the most vocal spokespeople for the Timorasso grape, which is growing in popularity. This age-worthy wine shows aromas of peach, pear and honey-glazed almond. With time, it should develop a more pronounced minty or mineral side.

A medium yellow hue, the 2023 Timorasso Derthona E.P. (Elena’s initials) is highly expressive and aromatic with notes of fresh pineapple, saline, papaya, honey, and fresh wet stones, giving the wine an almost Sauvignon-like quality. Ripe and long on the palate, it’s savory with herbaceous, fresh energy and more tropical notes. With a good deal of concentration and fantastic structure, it exhibits resinous undertones and Riesling-like aging potential and should drink well over the next 10 years.

Cascina Penna-Currado 's Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2023 is a refined expression of the native Timorasso grape variety, originating from the Tortona hills of Piedmont. This dry white wine embodies the Penna-Currado family's commitment to enhancing Piedmont terroir, with particular attention to local varieties.

The terroir of the Tortonesi Hills is characterized by calcareous and clayey soils, which give Timorasso a marked minerality and structure. The temperate climate, with hot summers and mild winters, favors optimal ripening of the grapes, while preserving a lively acidity. The vines are cultivated with sustainable practices, respecting the environment and enhancing local biodiversity.

At sight, the wine presents itself with a bright straw yellow color. On the nose, it offers a complex bouquet with notes of citrus, white fruit and delicate floral scents. On the palate, it stands out for its creamy and enveloping structure, with flavors of apricot and a marked saline minerality, culminating in a persistent and layered finish.

With an alcohol content of 12.5%, Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2023 pairs perfectly with fish dishes, pasta with creamy sauces and medium-aged cheeses. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 10-12 °C to fully appreciate its organoleptic characteristics.

Cascina Penna-Currado is the new personal project of the Penna-Currado Vietti family, led by Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti, together with their children, Michele and Giulia. After more than 35 years at the helm of one of the most renowned wineries in Piedmont, the family has undertaken this personal project, focusing on an artisanal production that reflects their experience and deep connection with the lands of the Langhe and Derthona.
