With a brut dosage, the 2016 Pur Avize Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs displays a smoky, refined bouquet with aromas of almonds, lemon oil, vanilla, pear and stone fruits mingled with hints of spring flowers. Comparable in style to the Unisson Grand Cru, it’s medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a delicate, pinpoint mousse and a long, penetrating finish. As its name indicates, it’s sourced from vines planted in the village of Avize.

Our Tasting Note:  Med gold color. Thick and frothy mousse. Pronounced nose of green apple, sweet lemons, a light creme note (malo) adds richness to the deep and powerful cut of the chalk and mineral saline. The palate is medium bodied, med+ acidity that is perfectly integrated, elegant, lip smacking freshness, then the malo rounds out the edges. Super long and complex finish.  Outstanding.

Bonville’s spectacular “Pur Avize” is sourced from three choice parcels in the heart of their home village: Les Avats, Les Maladries, and Les Chapelles. Combining the saline cut of the “Pur Mesnil” and the richness of the “Pur Oger,” this cuvée adds an undercurrent of flint, making it perhaps the most complex and complete of the trio. Like its brethren, this undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in steel, and is disgorged after a five-year stint on its lees.

100% Chardonnay
Parcelles: Les Avats, Les Maladrieres, Les Chapelles. Aging on the lees using natural cork (tirage liege). They chose vinte plots that are representative of the Avize Terroir, in the heart of the village, just a few meters away from their cellars.

The wines from Avize are well-balanced between freshness, fruitiness and their floral notes. They can already be enjoyed after 3 or 4 years of celaring. Very fine bubbles let us guess the energy contained in the champagne. The first scents totally reflect our chalky soils, combining flint notes to a mineral freshness. Aromas of pineapple and pear come to complete this pleasant nose."
