Wine Critic Reviews
Patricio Tapia - Descorchados (95): This pinot comes from Ventisquero's vineyards in two different parts of Huasco, one about 24 kilometers from the sea, and the other about 15, both on the northern bank of the river and on soils rich in calcium carbonate. This is a very soil-driven wine—it has red fruits and floral flavors, but what you sense most is the flavor of the soil, the sensation of stones on the palate. It's tense and austere, the acidity marks the mouth, and the tannins are firm, as dictated by the genetics of the variety. The finish is herbal, and again that mineral sensation appears, as if this wine were made of stones instead of fruit.
