2022 Greves Vignes de L'Enfant Jesus
Bouchard Pere & Fils

96 points Charles Curtis MW (Decanter): "The 2022 Baby Jesus is a wine of gorgeous intensity, with alluringly ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with notes of peony and spice. The forward fruits continue on the palate as intensely sweet and silky, with a density and grip that are only apparent with time. The grapes are from nearly four hectares of vines, although only the oldest vines and most concentrated fruit are used for this bottling, with some declassified into Beaune du Château. This wine will open in five to seven years and should easily drink for 30 more after the harvest. Drinking Window: 2027-2055. (May 2022)"

95-96 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com):
"If you ever doubted that Beaune wines can reach the exalted quality level that the world associates with Grand Cru wines here's the proof that it can. Deep and refined red fruit aromas with just a hint of spiciness on the nose. Great concentration and finesse on the precisely contoured palate. Very long, velvety finish. From 3.9 hectares with deep sandy and gravelly soils. (8/8/23)"

93-95 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "
More crimson than purple, with notably more presence than the other Beaunes. A range of fruits finishing with some black cherry after the dark red berries, a heightened intensity of fruit, with an excellent balance between tannin and acidity, and notable length. Not racked but has retained purity. (Oct 2023)"

92-94 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "
The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus is lovely, wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries, spices, violets and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a fleshy attack that segues into a refined, mineral palate and a saline finish, it's a benchmark for the appellation. (1/18/24)"

One of the legendary wines of the Beaune appellation is Beaune Greves Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus a signature wine from Bouchard Pere et Fils, who have owned the vineyard for over 100 years.  As the name suggests the vineyard is located inside the vast Beaune Greves vineyard – one of the best 1er crus of Beaune – and the Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus plot is located in what is widely considered the best part of Beaune Greves … in the very center of the vineyard. The name Vigne de L’Enfants Jésus presumably dates back to 1638 when Anne of Austria gave birth to King Louis XIV.  It is said that Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement the founding Carmelite of Domestiques de la famille du Saint Enfant Jesus predicted the birth of the long awaited heir to the French throne. The Queen, Anne of Austria, was 37 when she gave birth to her first child after four stillbirths. To celebrate this the Camelite order named it’s most prominent Beaune vineyard – Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus.
