Good Towards Mix & Match for the Deepest Deal

Felsina says that Fontalloro is their most representative expression Sangiovese. The grapes for Fontalloro come from vineyards that straddle the border between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. The vineyards lying within the Chianti Classico appellation are in the highest area of Fèlsina while those in the Chianti Colli Senesi are in lower elevations at (407-330m).

  • Southwestern exposure and diverse soil compositions: Chianti Classico is stony and calcareous; Colli Senesi is sandy, loamy and silty with pebbles and marine sediments.
  • Vineyards are a mix of 80s-00s plantings
  • De-stemmed and pressed, the must is fermented and macerated in stainless steel for 16-20 days at cooler temps with punchdowns and daily pumpovers.
  • New and into first used French oak barrels for 18-22 months of maturation.

Vinous Media (Galloni)
The 2019 Fontalloro is terrific. In this vintage, the blend of three vineyards is a plus in giving a wine endowed with density, resonance and plenty of Sangiovese character. Dried herbs, leather, incense, tobacco and cedar open with time in the glass. - By Antonio Galloni on June 2022

The 2019 Fontalloro is all Sangiovese that is aged in new and second-year barriques for up to 20 months. This vintage is represented by a production of 45,000 bottles. The wine opens to a medium-dark garnet color with lots of rich fruit and oak spice. The tannins are dry and the wine is slightly thinner that I would have expected, especially for a vintage that is identified by extra concentration. With time in the glass, Fontalloro relaxes to show more volume and a broader presentation of dark fruit aromas.
