The first thing you zero in on this wine is the insane color...that kind of electric ruby red makes me go "What is that, I want to taste that!"  Miscelone can be described most broadly as one of those "Thanksgiving wines" where it delivers 1) sensory pleasure 2) cerebral interest 3) goes with all the foods on the table.  So, it will go with just about anything you have on the table at any given time (not just Thanksgiving) except probably heavy sauced foods or charred chops.  Seafood, chicken, pork, veg, or spicy food = all perfect! ( I sound like the intro song to Somebody Feed Phil! if you have caught any of that show yet on Netflix).

Grapes: Sangiovese (60%), Malvasia (35%), Albana (5%)

Winemaking:

  • Stainless vats
  • No Selected yeasts
  • Ferm temp 30 °C max.
  • Full malolactic fermentation
  • Cement vats for 6 Months, filtered
  • 12.5% abv

Le Ragnaie Miscelone is a blend of red and white grapes and an attempt to make a refreshing wine that gives you the best of both worlds in a red and white wine as this is NOT a rose wine. 'Miseclone,' or 'big mix,' is made up of 60% co-fermented red varietals and 40% white from the same vineyard, done with carbonic maceration and just a brief 4 months in concrete before going to bottle.

My Tasting Note:
An eye-catching, vibrant and translucent ruby red that is magnetic to the eye.  The nose is med+ with notes of fresh red cherries, red raspberries, dried  and crushed wildflowers, caraway spice, mint, and a touch of dried garden herbs - really nice complexity.  The palate is medium bodied, subtle and light tannin,  med/med+ acidity, med+ with flavor intensity. Finishes fresh with elegance in the med+ length.

Previous bottles of this grew in the glass and I let some sit for an hour and it got more pronounced, so give it some air when you open it, maybe even decant it in a chilled decanter or pop it in the decanter and place it in the fridge.
