Montalcino has an altitude limit in Brunello; it's not allowed to grow above 600m. This organically farmed sangiovese is grown from 620-655m altitude, hence it fell into the declassification of IGT Chianti Colli Senesi or IGT Toscana Rosso to declassify even further. Troncone means stump, and was the nickname of Riccardo's grandfather. There is also a large stump in the sandstone, limestone and clay vineyard, giving this wine's name a double meaning. Ragnaie is Etruscan for spiderweb, and reflecting the label and the netting that Etruscans would use to catch small birds. From the Le Ragnaie Lago & Fonte vineyards, this was native fermented in concrete, and aged 1 year in 25 to 100 hl Slavonian oak vats prior to bottling, unfined and lightly filtered.

Our Tasting Note: Superb freshness on this medium weighted wine from the higher altitudes of Montalcino with nuances that remind you this is from a traditional Brunello house.  Med ruby red core, vibrant edges. The nose and palate are freshly red fruited with bright red cherry, with spicy, savory, and herbal notes. The medium bodied palate has medium grain tannin and acidity.  The med+ flavor intensity finishes refreshing, with tangy red fruit and spices.
