“Light scents recalling crushed mint and wild berry take shape in the glass along with baking spice notes. Taut, young and delicious, the palate offers juicy red cherry, mocha and menthol alongside fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced. Drink 2025–2030.”
Our Tasting Note
The Cerratti Cru behind the winery forms the back bone of this wine, with fruit also from Meriame, Broglio and Cerretta Crus. Med+ ruby, lighter edges as expected. Med+ nose of currants, cherry, tobacco, spices, mint, rose petals, some tar. The muscular palate is med+ bodied, med+ to high tannins, med+ acidity, a med+ intensity long finish. While 2020 was warm, this retains good minerality and balances that and the structure with a pure fruit density that has energy from the acidity. 15% abv. Decant at least 1 hour, if not more!
Sourced from 2.1ha of different parcels (mainly the crus of Cerrati and Meriame, plus Cerretta and Broglio when possible) all located in the village of Serralunga d'Alba, at altitudes of 360-400m above sea level; the vineyards have south-east and west exposures, and are composed mostly of calcareous and tufaceous soil. Cover crops such as clover and mustard greens are planted to achieve balance and limit yields naturally. The grapes were destemmed and crushed; fermentation occurred spontaneously in cement vats, with maceration lasting 20 days with pumpovers. After malolactic, the wine was racked into used Slavonian oak botti of 3000-3600L and aged for 30 months. Bottled unfined/unfiltered and bottle aged for 6 months before release.
