"Pretty and rounded, this Barolo offers a delightful aromas reminiscent of mixed berry jam and preserves with a touch of medicinal notes. Classically formed on the palate with a core of cherry, wild herbs and hint of roasted black tea, the tannins make their presence known on the palate with a chalky texture. This is my favorite wine in this group from Schiavenza. The 2020 Barolo Cerretta (with a 15% alcohol content) has dried fruit and baked plum that gives the wine an aged profile. These results are firm and muscular with a powerful approach to the mouthfeel. This wine has some of the metallic or ferrous qualities that I often associate with Serralunga d'Alba. It finishes with a salty, mineral close. 3,500 bottles were made.
From the "bricco" (aka crest) of the Cerretta cru, 0.9ha at 390m altitude with a SE exposure; the soil is silty clay, highly calcareous. Fermentation spontaneously in cement vats, maceration of 30 days. Malolactic in tank, then racked into used Slavonian oak botti of 3000-3600L and aged for 30 months. Bottled unfined/unfiltered and bottle aged for 6 months before release.
