V Puro Alias Tinto 2018
“Puro”, the Portuguese word for pure. V Puro is the passion project of two long-time friends, enologists, and viticulturists, Nuno Mira do Ó and João Soares. The pair love old vines, and have a passion for hunting down and working with old vine Baga. Their discovery of an ancient vineyard in Bairrada with vines between 80 to 120 years of age sealed their partnership.
The duo seeks to unlock the wonderful, fresh, intense flavors only possible from old vines. The Atlantic influence in the Mediterranean climate combined with clay and limestone soils and their native varietals create unique wines of place. While very limited in quantity, these wines offer a unique story about the history of Baga, the special place the vines are rooted, and the depth of friendship and passion Nuno and João bring to them.
This wine was born of the centenarian Baga vines in Bairrada. It is a limited production of a specific parcel of our vineyard in the Valley of Cadoiços. In this clay area the old vines have an imposing size and the grapes hold a unique freshness. We decided to make a different wine of this micro-terroir. A fresher, less concentrated wine, thinking about the purity and elegance of the variety.

TASTING NOTES A lovely ruby red color. It reveals the aromas of limestone minerality as well as cherry notes and a vegetable/flowery frangrance. In the mouth it is very fresh, with silky tannins, salty sensations, spicy notes and an amazing acidity that transports the wine in a very long after taste.
OTHER NOTES This wine has the potential to age very well in the bottle. Store bottles laying down in a dark cool place. Drink at 16-17 ºC.
