The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Viti Vecchie Vallegrande is fabulous. A wine of sweeping grandeur and complexity, the Vallegrande is seriously beautiful. It shows all the deep spice and earthiness of Treiso in spades. Dark cherry, spice, leather, cedar and incense are some of the many notes that come alive in the glass. This is classic Treiso.

From the oldest vineyards surrounding the winery comes a Barbaresco with a dense tannic matrix, deep and rich. A patriotic wine that best expresses what the town of Treiso has to offer. Vallegrande Riserva Viti Vecchie is the ultimate synthesis of the Grasso family’s viti-vinicultural expressiveness.

Winemaking: The crushing of the grapes, hand-picked and selected in a few micro-areas of CRU Vallegrande, produces the must that ferments, with temperature-controlled maceration, in wooden vats. In the lively phase of fermentation, two punching-downs per day allow for the proper extraction of colours and aromas from the skins. Then, the submerged cap maceration continues for a long time, for about 60 days. After racking, the wine matures for 30 months in big oak casks and, finally, it matures in the bottle for 12 months before release.
