'Gorges' 2018
Domaine Bregeon
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, Loire Valley

One of the top Muscadet from the Loire Valley, cultivated from vines over 65 years in soils of gabbro, a decomposed blue-green igneous rock. Highly regarded for its depth and complexity that transcends most producers' typical Muscadet wines, yet retains the typicity of bright acidity and minerality, it is a distinctive and refined experience, one of the best for the melon de bourgogne grape!

  • 2+ years extended aging sur lie
  • Vine Age: 65+ years
  • Soils: Gabbro decomposed blue-green igneous rock
Muscadet is also generally considered an oyster wine, but this cuvée is Fred Lailler’s masterpiece that transcends any pigeonholing that sometimes happens with these whites from the western Loire. Named for one of the region’s most prized crus that sits atop a very special soil called gabbro, Gorges boasts an incredible texture and tension imparted by this decomposed, blue-green igneous rock, seventy-year-old vines, and years-long aging on the lees. Moules marinières or any kind of seafood pasta are matches made in heaven. - Kermit Lynch
