The 2022 Patchwork Chardonnay is the classic entry-level Chardonnay, produced with grapes from a blend of clay and limestone soils. It aged in barrel for two years in a very warm and dry vintage with very difficult fermentations, so Tissot had to use a little more sulfur. It has a classic profile and represents good value for money. But this year, the wine is less reductive than normal, it was also a large production and is riper, hitting 14% alcohol, rounder and dry but with more volume, reflecting the conditions of the year.
Tasting Note: It is sharp and salty yet generous with it's citrus and orchard fruits. Mediumbodied and medium plus in complexity, intensity and length. This is always a top chardonnay for me from the Jura (and quite a deal compared to other producers)
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay – vines planted in 1962, 1974 & 1978.
Viticulture: 8 acres in 5 different plots named “en courçon”, “le Moulin”, “le pont”, “la régole” and “les corvées sous Curon”. West facing parcels made of 60 % of clay and 40% of limestone.
Winemaking: Slow pressing in pneumatic press. Fermentation, with native yeasts, and 12 months ageing both happens in 228 liters French oak barrels (10% new oak). Light filtration before bottling. Total doses of SO2 below 20 mg/l.
