Cascina Baricchi 'Riva della Coda' Barbera d’Alba 2020
$33.99 on 4+ (code: 4saves3)
$36.99
While not rated, the 2020 is a warm year like 2017 and that wine garnered 93 points from Vinous and Galloni. The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Riva della Coda is a gorgeous wine that shows just how well Barbera did in 2017. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather, licorice and chocolate are all kicked up in a boisterous Barbera that captures all of the flamboyant exoticism of 2017. - By Antonio Galloni on November 2021
Municipality: Neviglie.
Year of planting: 1992.
Planting density: approximately 5,000 vines / Ha – average production approximately 1.5 kg per plant.
Harvest: traditional with hand-picking in small baskets.
Vinification: destemming, traditional fermentation in stainless steel tanks, maceration for approximately ten days using the total pumping over technique, performing a complete racking whenever the cap shows signs of consolidation, using a support tank and covering the cap which has now settled to the bottom due to flooding.
Aging: the wine remains for 18/24 months in neutral large oak barrels.
Tasting Note: Intense ruby red tending towards dark. The wine presents itself with floral notes on the nose, at times still vinous and with hints of fresh fruit such as plum, cherry and raspberry, herbaceous and slightly spicy, all well harmonized with the woody notes, given by the aging in wood. On the palate it is elegant and harmonious, with good persistence, enveloping and pleasant in its freshness. A complete wine suitable for dishes of good character that enhance its essential robustness.
