Segni di Langa - Gian Luca Colombo Nebbiolo d`Alba 2022
Our Tasting Note (2021): Another peek at the coming greatness of the 2021 vintage. Medium but transparent ruby red, lighter at the edges. The nose is all crushed red fruits (strawberry/cherry), crushed florals (rose), a light touch of tar and spices. The palate is med/med+ bodied with a juicy presence on the palate as the flavors fan out to a med+ finish with perfectly integrated med/med+ acidity. A lovely Langhe Nebbiolo to drink now or age it for 10 years easy, but its personality will allow you to get into it now.
Nebbiolo d’Alba is a single vineyard production from a 50 year old vineyard in Roddi just west of Alba. Geologically Barolo, politically Nebbiolo, with the aim of showing the uniqueness of its terroir. His philosophy is to follow and understand what vintage has given him: bring the grape variety, the territory and the vintage characteristic together in the bottle. Every year the maceration time, the aging period, and the containers used are different as those are dictated by the kind of fruit harvested. Ultimately, like all of his wines, the desire is to create a positive emotion between the land, the wine, and the people drinking the wine.
Vineyard: Roddi – exposition South, South-East. This is just west of Alba and when you leave Alba its the first village you hit between the SP7 and SP3 thoroughfares.
Vinification: Maceration with skin contact 25-50 days depending on the vintage
Maturation: 100% in Austrian Oak (neutral), then terra cotta clay tanks for 12 months – no filtration, no clarification.
