Clos des Porrets is a 9-acre Premier Cru (1er) Monopole vineyard, meaning this is their own walled in vineyard that they have exclusive ownership and use of. No one else can make a wine from this vineyard. The site is located just below Perrieres and was a former quarry for the village of NSG. Soils consist of calcareous limestone and clay on top of a bedrock of the pink stony limestone 'Premeaux', very complex geologically, thus great for vines to grow complex fruit from! Highly structured in their youth, the wines at year 5 or so in a typical vintage start to reveal their true, finessed expression.

Very ripe yet still reasonably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of roasted plum, black cherry, cassis and earth. The dense, powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors are supported by a very firm tannic spine on the robust, serious and very compact finale. This is quite impressive though certainly not typical.

90-93 points Jasper Morris
No separate HD cuvée was made this year as there was not enough wine, after the hail as well as in a dry year. Long slow fermentation and the malolactic is still happening. Black purple. Ignore the nose for now, as it shows malolactic elements. Super intensity, a bit of Bovril meatiness, really hard to judge though looks like will broadly be the same pattern as the others, though perhaps even more concentrated.

Jasper Morris MW:
The wines at this address in the 40s and 50s were huge, backward long-term agers. The domaine took a lighter path in the 70s-80s but with the current younger generation have gone back to the uber-dense structure and long-term aging potential. "A monopoly of the domaine, making a wine with very intense black fruit, perhaps blackcurrants even. There is exceptional density to this wine, which will certainly repay aging in bottle." Grapes are fully destemmed with no deliberate cold pre-soaks, vinified in cement tanks, with fermentation lasting a week to almost 2. The barrel regimen is mostly used oak, with a little new oak for an 18-month elevage.
