Elegant and fresh, perfumed with red fruits, spices, mushroom, loam, this was very pretty, but with really good persistence...like walking a tightrope, focused and consistent!

Our tasting notes: A pale ruby core and lighter edges. The nose was bags of spices, some savory and some baking, crunchy higher toned red fruits, red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate, perfumed, subtle loam.  On the palate med bodied, silky med tannin, med+ intensity and finish that is fresh and persistent.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Hyland Vineyard comes from self-rooted vines planted in 1989. It was vinified with around 15% whole clusters and matured for 14 months. It blossoms slowly in the glass from wild berries and Italian plum to accents of bitter orange, tobacco and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate has a chalky, refreshing frame, giving its surprisingly nuanced core of fruit a weightless feel, and it finishes with alluring spices reminiscent of Angostura bitters. It will benefit from a few years in bottle to unwind.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Hyland Vineyard impresses with its bouquet of autumnal spices, cocoa, cola and dried florals. It's seductively textural with soothing silken red berries and rosy inner florals swirling over a core of juicy acidity, lifted by sour citrus hints. This finishes long and spicy with a lingering pleasurably bitter tinge and slowly fading touches of tart cranberry. 10-15% whole cluster fruit. Wow. - By Eric Guido on January 2024
