88-89 Jasper Morris
Deep purple with an exotic exuberant nose, not too cooked. Lovely fresh red fruit despite the more exotic style, floral peony notes, ripe raspberries, relatively dancing, and with good length.
The vines that produce the grapes for this Bourgogne Rouge were planted in 1963, 1970, 1975 and 1984. The wine is fermented in open vats with floating caps that are punched down daily. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new oak.
Our Tasting Note: I'd tick this one point higher than Jasper, it merits all that a Bourgogne rouge should for a 90 point score. Color, a deep ruby core and vibrant, youthful ruby edges. A med+ boisterous noise of berries and cherries, some toasty sweet notes from the oak that enhances, it is well integrated. Masculine on the palate, some medium grain tannins but the fruit is all there too, long and lush intense finish. A great example of how far Bourgogne rouge have come in the last 10 years!
