The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Doccio a Matteo is stellar. Dark, ample and layered, the 2019 possesses remarkable depth and nuance right out of the gate. Black cherry, lavender, licorice, coffee and new leather all flesh out in this deceptively mid-weight Riserva. Impressive.
Our Tasting Note
Deep ruby, vibrant ruby edges. The bouquet is med+/pronounced, the aromas rise easily from the glass with red bing cherry, red raspberry, classic sangiovese dusty notes, some new saddle leather, and light balsamic spice notes, with a beautiful floral lavender lift. On the palate this is medium to full bodied, med/med+ perfectly integrated acidity, med+ ripe and mildly structured tannin. Flavor intensity is med+ to full, with a long finish.
Cement tanks ferment the wines and large botti (oak casks larger than SUVs) age the wines into the majestic, deeply complex, and elegant, but dense and persistent character. I hate to name-drop this again but if you love Monterevtine, soulful reds like ethereally deep red Burgundy or Loire reds you will love these wines!
