Grape: 100% Cannonau (aka Grenache)
ABV: 15.5%
Limited: 3,000 bottle production
Vines: 80-year-old vines from a single vineyard in Elsi, planted at 650m ASL, crazy low 25hl/H
Soils: Decomposed granite soils
Winemaking: smaller vats for fermentation of spontaneous, native yeasts only; light pressing after 15 days of fermentation, used French oak for 15 months
Winery: This wine is obtained only from the grapes of our vineyard located in the “Elsi” area. The very narrow planting of the vineyard does not allow the passage of mechanical means so oxen is used for plowing.
My Tasting Note
Deep ruby to ruby-purple edges. The nose is deeper than the Pedras Longas, very detailed, with deep red cherry, cassis, plum and blueberry fruits, wild florals, a touch of mocha powder, and elegant baking spices. The palate has excellent depth and concentration, very persistent with med+ tannin that come across as structured as the fruit, and body of the wine has an elegance to them. Long in the finish, the fruit carries well over a minute in the finish.
