The 2022 Rully Rouge La Chaume, bottled just before Christmas, has a perfumed and expressive bouquet of lifted red fruit that reminds me of a Pinot from around Premeaux-Prissey. The palate is medium-bodied, with a sapid entry and fine grip. It’s quite edgy with a taut and focused finish. Very refined, this, with a lingering, pepper-tinged aftertaste. Seek this out. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London. - By Neal Martin on January 2024

My Tasting Note 5/23 (of the 2020): Elegant and refined, with its red sappy and fresh fruits countering beautifully against the earthy, mushroom and loamy notes, with a distinct mineral streak, a beautiful 2020 that is counter to many in this price range that are all about the fruit.
My Tasting Note 9/22 (of the 2019): Strikingly pure red berry and cherry fruits, higher toned but deep, with sweet florals, dabs of earth and savory, but so, so heady with the pure and fresh red fruits.  The palate adds a nice vein of minerality, and does not disappoint what the aromas preceded with.  Texturally young with med- tannin that are fine while overall medium bodied.  This is a very enticing, attractive, delicious and complex little wine - for the price it is so exciting.  While the fruit is the show, it is not showy, its just very pure and classy, with a strong, dense clarity that is very appealing.  I added extra to my initial order for the shop shelves and myself, this will be my go-to Pinot this fall.

  • Rully La Chaume comes from a unique plot of 2.47ha facing South-East located on the hillsides of Rully opposite the castle.
  • The soil is clayey-limestone and stony.
  • The vines have an average age of 58 years.
  • Certified organic farming
  • After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are destemmed and then placed in temperature-controlled vats for a pre-fermentation maceration for a few days followed by alcoholic fermentation.
  • Maceration lasts between two and three weeks at temperature control
  • After pressing, the new wine is then placed in oak barrels for 12-14 months, sometimes a small percentage of the oak is new if it makes sense, but it is usually mostly 1-2 years used.
