This wine is a perfect pairing for anything seafood, or just 100 degree weather!
Along the Italian Riviera there are vineyards in pockets of terroir just inland and there are some that cling to the seaside cliffs of the Mediterranean. Today's wine lies just inland from the sea, but tastes like it was grown on the cliffs soaking in the sun and sea spray of the Mediterranean. A new discovery for us, we tasted this a couple of weeks ago with one of our importers and have kept a steady stock in the store. With the current heat wave we thought this wine would be perfect to get in front of our audience as it encapsulates what we feel best captures the perfect wine to have right now with the hot weather and lighter fare foods of summer time! This is one of the best Italian white wines we have tasted in a while and has us super excited for summer to brave the heat wave we are all currently facing!
Our tasting note: This is a very deep and mineral expression of Vermentino, coming from the Colli di Luni DOC in Liguria. The grapes are fermented 100% in cement tanks giving this wine a delightful creaminess and texture despite its racy acidity and salty core! The nose and palate confirm the salinity, minerality and a bit of melon and stone fruit that adds a deeper kind of fruit expression. Medium bodied with a long, fresh finish, this is exquisite!
