Every year this is my favorite white wine from the island. Complex, rich, mineral, with density and tension that in youth leaves the wine begging for some cellar time. This vintage is warmer, and more primary than I have had in the past from previous vintages, which allows you to get into the wine now, but it should age really well into what is usually one of the best bottles of wine from Santorini.

On the ancient plain of Oia, in the island of Santorini, the winery of DOMAINE SIGALAS can be found. Here, the most vibrant variety of the Mediterranean zone, the Santorini Assyrtiko as well as the Aidani, Athiri, Mandilaria and the Mavrotragano are put to the best use possible, and with the proper respect to their organoleptic characteristics, the quality wines are produced which receive acclaim in international competitions, both in Greece and abroad.

100% Assyrtiko
Vineyard: Selected blocks spread over the island from basket-trained vines averaging 60 years of age. Handpicked, strict grape sorting
Grapes are harvested by hand from the vineyards. They spend a night in a refrigerator at cold temperatures. Next day whole-cluster sorting and pressing. Cold maceration at low temperatures for 1-2 days, then the must is transferred into the stainless steel where fermentation takes place.
The wine is aged for 3 months in stainless steel tanks on it’s lees then bottled.
Vegan certified
Alcohol by Volume 14%
Total Acidity 5.5 gr/lt
pH 3.29
Our Tasting Note: On the nose, austere, with acidity being the backbone of the wine, intense minerality, citrus fruit, riper, showing some riper stone and tropical notes. The mineral core is buried in there, taste as a result of Santorini’s unique terroir, flavors of citrus fruits and peach. Petrol and honey hints appear in aged Assyrtiko. Long lasting aftertaste
94 pts Wine Advocate (*2022 vintage) “... Ripe and dense, this is a big wine on the palate, yet it is never overripe and it is sometimes stonewashed in demeanor. It shows good balance while it coats the palate, and it finishes with great fruit supported by impressive structure. The main f law here is that this is underdeveloped and not yet fully expressive. That, of course, is something that will only be fixed by a couple of years in the bottle. It should hold well after that. That's not to say you can't drink it today. It is very good right now.
