2023 Luberri Monje Amestoy 'Zuri' Blanco
Rioja, Spain
Vine Age: 30 to 50-year-old vines
Soil: Sandy clay calcareous
Vinification: After a manual harvest, the bunches are destemmed and undergo a cold maceration before a soft pressing in a bladder press. The free-run must is then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is kept on the lees for two months with bâtonnage to extract maximum aromatic complexity.
Zuri, which means white in Basque, the native language of the Monje family, is a fresher, textbook Rioja balnco.
White orchard and orange fruits, some stone fruit, mineral notes, this is a really complex younger white Rioja, that is med+ in the nose, palate and body. The palate is substantive and fresh from the entirely steel tank fermentation and aging. Med+ on a generous finish. If you like traditional Rioja whites this is for you and a LOT of wine for the MONEY!
Florentino Martínez Monje established Luberri in 1992; he is a dedicated and traditional winemaker, yet more than anything his wines show his roots as an enormously talented farmer at heart. Zuri means white in Basque, the native language of the Monje family.
